This is an excellent opportunity for a DATA ENGINEER (Data Scientist, Python, Linux, Bash) to bridge the gap between IT (Data Management), Business and Data Analytics in a leading FINANCIAL SERVICES COMPANY.
The role provides an excellent opportunity to use your Python, Linux, Bash skills to explore a new Cloud and Open Source Solution for this innovative Data Solutions Team.

Based in CENTURION this DATA ENGINEER role offers a salary of around R900K/annum.

This established FINANCIAL SERVICES COMPANY is a specialist in Asset Management, Investments, Insurance and Healthcare administration – they are a significant player in the FS sector and a keen adopter of technology innovation to drive their business and client-services agenda.
The Data team are an exceptionally strong team of Programmers, Data Managers, Analysts and Data Scientists, who constantly strive to ensure that data is meaningful to the business and that the analysis of that data to provide insights is delivered in a technically efficient, modern, Agile and accurate way.

As DATA ENGINEER you will bridge the gap between IT, Software Engineering, Data Management and Data Analytics – the business has Big Data Assets and Pipelines to Data Science, and once managed provide the Data Analysts and Insight experts with an exceptional platform to inform business decisions through the interpretation of that Data.
This role really hinges around exploring innovative Engineering advents to bridge the gap between IT Engineering, Data Management and Analytics by exploring Data Science, Cloud Solutions, Python, Linux, Bash, Scala (or similar) technologies to efficiently source, convert, align, version and validate the data journey. You will also help debug and optimise algorithms written in Python and R.

A Computer Engineering education will be ideal – e.g. BSc / BEng in Computer Science.
Experience in open source software engineering or Data Science.
Python programming or Scala.
Bash/Shell scripting.
AWS, Spark and NoSQL experience will be a plus but not essential.
An understanding of open source Software Engineering and Software Design will be a distinct advantage.
