This is a superb opportunity for a SENIOR FMCG / RETAIL SUPPLIER ENGAGEMENT specialist to be the HEAD OF COMMERCIAL FMCG/RETAILER SUPPLIER ENGAGEMENT for the world’s leading CONSUMER DATA SCIENCE CONSULTANCY.
 
This is a Senior Level position within the most powerful CONSUMER INSIGHT, ANALYTICS, TECH & DATA SCIENCE company who have driven brand value, profitability, customer-centricity & consumer loyalty for the most successful & largest RETAILERS & FMCG’s/CPG’s internationally.
 
This position offers you the opportunity to work closely with the largest FMCG’s & Pan-African Retailers and to manage all aspects of Commercial FMCG Engagement Strategies.
 
LOCATION: You can be based either in CAPE TOWN or JOHANNESBURG – please note, the role will require frequent travel between these two locations.

THE ROLE:
As a Senior member of the team, in the role of HEAD OF COMMERCIAL FMCG/RETAIL ENGAGEMENT, you’ll be responsible for managing the engagement between FMCG suppliers and major Pan-African Retailers, with a focus on driving insight-based customer centric category strategies.  You will be an experienced FMCG/Client Manager able to develop, deliver and lead commercial growth with a particular focus on the FMCG/Supplier business for insights services to the manufacturers. 
 
This involves (but not limited to):
Enhance the value delivery for suppliers from the company’s online solutions; 
Drive board level stakeholder engagement, communicating the value of the work in contributing to both Retailers and Manufacturers; 
Lead the delivery of accurate, creative and actionable customer insights which enhance consumer loyalty; 
Ensure alignment between retail operations, marketing/communication and manufacturers; 
Develop new strategies and business opportunities for working directly with FMCG Suppliers; 
Build revenue & headcount forecasts, manage a revenue stream and deliver the P&L for the portfolio, achieving the net revenue. 
Manage and inspire a high performing team based in Joburg & Cape Town.
 
REQUIRED SKILLS:
 
Essential:
A working relationship with FMCG Manufacturers in South African retail market over the most recent 5 years. 
Understanding of the org structure and spend budgets within a supplier (viz, sales/trade; marketing; brand). 
Managed P&L. 
Experience of consultative selling in the South African market. 
Comfortable with data analysis. 
10-15 years of total experience.  
Understanding of South African market landscape in retail. 
Knowledge of category management. 
Ability to interact with CXO level.
Inspirational approach to managing a team. 
 
Desirable 
Experience and exposure to the media/agency for brand development and marketing. 
Worked across different verticals within a FMCG, viz Sales & Trade, Marketing, Brand & Product Development. 
Understanding of loyalty and customer science approach and commercial impact. 
Ability to monetise data; and ability to merge data sets beyond joint venture primary relationship to position new capabilities to manufacturers.
